This year I don’t have any links to panels to share, and for the most part, I didn’t take photos until I sat in Program A all day on Sunday. I hope you’ll all forgive me, then, if for my wrap-up I do a combination of photos of my one new cosplay (that’d be my Kimono!9, which I wore on Saturday) and photos I took during those Sunday panels.
So just like last year, I wore my femme!Three on Friday (see last year’s recap for photos). Though Katy Manning coveted the frilly shirt, this year I got more comments on how it would make a great Joker cosplay than on its intended meaning. I shrugged it off, though, since it was a repeat costume, and the real “money shot,” if you will, would be on Saturday.
Remember that I created this costume as part of a group cosplay (the Tin Litter), in which all of us would do our unique take on K-9. It was therefore important to me to get some group photos. Since we’d had our photo taken with Sylvester McCoy as the TARDISpod at Gally 2013, I loved the idea of getting Doctor photos as the Tin Litter this year. Not everyone was up for both Doctor (spoiled for choice, we were!), so there ended up being two of us with Colin, and four of us with Paul.
We were also fortunate to have photographer Omar Fremen take some shots of us. My favorite photo of my Kimono!9 from the whole con is this one he took:
Many thanks to him for both the photo and the permission to post it!
Sunday I wimped out on cosplay. I knew I’d be holed up in Program A all day anyway, so I stuck with T-shirt and jeans. That made it my turn to do the picture taking. You can go back to my Day Three review to see what all these panels were, but here are some of my favorite shots from throughout the day.
Although I took a few pictures of Billie Piper, none of them were particularly flattering. On the other hand, I got several good shots of Arthur Darvill (my favorite is included here), and I just couldn’t seem to stop clicking during the “box of frogs” panel. Katy Manning and Nicola Bryant (and eventually Daphne Ashbrook) were clearly having so much fun, it’s hard not to smile and laugh right along with them.
When the father/son team of W. Morgan and Mark Sheppard came on stage, I’ll admit I tuned out a bit (due to the questions asked). But they’re both marvelous actors and wonderful guests.
Then there were our Doctors. Colin Baker showed us what a jolly, self-effacing man he is, and Paul McGann didn’t think twice about making himself comfortable.
At one point, someone offered Colin her Tribble. He seemed charmed by its chirps and vibrations. When Colin tossed it to his curious counterpart, Paul cuddled it close a moment before declaring, “I don’t think I like that!” Shuddering, he chucked it back to the other couch.
Colin was happy to keep it for himself for most of the rest of the panel.
Frazer Hines and Deborah Watling were glad to talk about what the recovery of two of their stories meant to them, and gave some fun commentary. Here they are in a scene from the opening of The Enemy of the World, as it was screened for us.
Finally, here are a couple of screen shots (new meaning for the term!) of the final episode of The Web of Fear. First, we see Ann Travers, the Doctor, (Frazer as) Jamie, and the heretofore unknown Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart (in the future Brigadier’s first appearance in the role). Second, we see (Deborah as) Victoria with Professor Travers, played by Deborah’s father Jack.
So there you have it. None of it is great art (particularly not the ones I took), but it will give you a little taste of what it was like at Gally 2014. And planning for next year has already begun—after all, there are only 355 days left!
